Real Wood and Cedar Siding Installation

Natural cedar, pine and other woods, installed with back priming, careful flashing and finishes that bring out the grain.

Nothing looks quite like real wood. Cedar glows warmly when it is new, silvers gracefully if left natural and takes stain and paint beautifully. Wood siding fits historic homes, rustic cabins, craftsman bungalows and modern designs that want natural texture. It is also easy to repair: a damaged board can be cut out and replaced without replacing a whole wall.

Wood asks for more care than other materials, and a good installation includes that care from the start. We choose well-dried boards, prime or stain every side before they go up, keep the bottom edge off the roof and soil and flash all openings. A finish applied soon after installation protects the boards from sun and water. We explain the maintenance schedule honestly, with annual walks around the house and refinishing every few years, so you choose wood knowing exactly what the relationship will be like.

Chosen and dried well

We pick straight, well-dried boards in the grade and species that suit your home and budget.

Back primed

Priming or staining all sides, including the back and ends, slows moisture swings that cause cupping and checking.

Fastened to move

Nails are placed so wide boards can move with the seasons without splitting.

Finished early

A fresh coat of stain or paint protects new boards quickly, before sun and rain begin to wear them.

Questions

Real Wood and Cedar Siding FAQ

How often does cedar need refinishing?

Stained cedar often needs a new coat every few years and painted cedar a bit longer, depending on sun and shade.

Will cedar rot?

Cedar resists decay better than most woods, but it is not rot-proof. Good detailing and finish are what keep it sound.

Can I let it weather gray?

Yes. Many owners enjoy the silver patina. It still needs cleaning and a little attention to moisture.

Is wood allowed by my HOA?

Some HOAs restrict it and some require it. We help you check before you buy.

How does wood compare with fiber cement?

Wood is more natural and repairable. Fiber cement needs less upkeep and resists pests and rot better.
