Middle Tennessee gets hail, wind and heavy rain. Here is how to choose siding that stands up to the weather we actually have.
Middle Tennessee sits in a corridor of severe spring weather. Hail, straight-line winds and the occasional tornado warning are part of life here, and siding takes the first hit. A hailstone the size of a quarter can dent aluminum, crack thin vinyl and chip brittle surfaces, and high winds can peel poorly fastened panels right off the wall.
Choosing the right material helps. Fiber cement and thick steel resist hail very well. Thicker vinyl and insulated vinyl handle moderate storms better than thin panels. Fastening matters just as much as material: nails placed in the right spot, panels locked in and trim secured give the wall a fighting chance when the wind picks up. After a storm, we inspect every elevation, document damage and plan repairs so a small problem does not become a leak.
